Intermission

I’m sitting here mulling over comments and new followers and I feel that I need to take a break from reposting from Quora and refocus on material specific to this blog.

Don’t get me wrong: nearly all of my Quora-inspired posts are worthy of repeating here and I cannot see a point where I cease going there for ideas – other than the almost inevitable ban due to a flagrant and deliberate violation of their “be nice, be respectful” rules.

However, this blog started as one idea and format and has evolved into what it is now. I had moved from a spin-off from an earlier WordPress blog created as a medium into which I could pour out my frustrations, anger, and observations; funny, bitter, and frantic creativity which revolved around my “Muse.” This blog originally centered around the idea of writing about military surplus weaponry and their associated histories. It was an interesting concept… but the interest was isolated to just me.

Since then, milsurpwriter has turned into a sort of online depository for anything and everything but my perspectives on my personal life. History, “war stories,” commentary on current events, information warfare… all of it, while interesting, serves a more profound purpose beyond sharing: posterity.

A while ago, I received a comment which reinforced what I have written as a potential primary source for later research and study. In a way, that was what I was going for – a means for my words to reach beyond the present and remain available for my kids’ enjoyment and enlightenment when they get to an age where they can appreciate what is saved… either here on WordPress or on the various hard drives upon which they are saved as Word documents. Call it old age, but there are tons of ideas and thoughts backlogged in my mind – enough that, even if I devoted 8 hours a day for 6 months, I wouldn’t even scratch the surface of what I could write about.

That brings us to here… this moment.

Presently, I have 24 folks who follow this blog – 6 of which follow via email. To you all, I give my most sincere thanks. You have been patient as I ramble, reformat the layout, and your interest and support continues to motivate me to provide the best use of your time and attention. Those of you who follow me on Facebook know and understand my routine: my decreased activity there can only mean more posts to follow here.

Quora and, to a lesser extent Facebook, will continue to serve as my digital extension out of my biases and small echo chamber. However, I am curious: what would you like to read more of? Take this post as an open-ended “suggestion box” for more ideas to consider implementing…

Again, thanks for reading!

As frustrating to you as my answer might be; write about whatever you find interesting. I don’t know what I’m coming here to read. It’s refreshing to get your blog and not know in this world of machines filtering the internet to what they think I’m going to enjoy. Just keep writing and you will continue to build your audience. Take advantage of the freedom this blog provides. Thanks for asking, but nevermind us just get to work! 😄
