SJWs and Friendships

“Have you ever met an SJW, and what was that meeting like?”

Met? Hell, I’m friends with a few.

For the most part, the interactions are what they have come to expect from me: a question or statement probing for my thoughts on an issue, then… silence… before a well-considered response favoring a moderate position on many issues.

Social justice warriors are people, too. Albeit people with sensitivities wavering toward the “extremely triggered” end of the spectrum… but still people nonetheless.

Those I chose to call friends know that I respect their opinions just as I expect them to respect mine. We differ greatly on several issues, but that does not negate the friendship that we share. One or two might press their boundaries and teeter dangerously close to having the bridge of communication doused with napalm and subsequently set ablaze with a satisfying warm glow and appropriate setting for S’mores, but it takes a lot for me to get to that point. Being friends, they typically know this and back off well before I start adding chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers to my shopping list.

As for the random encounters with free-floating warriors of social justice…

[Shrug]

See and avoid, really. I have no business hanging around or conversing with someone whose transponder is stuck on stupid… and for me that is the mode they are mired in – offended at anything and everything, miserable, selective in their understanding of history, and extremely vocal in showing all of it.

So, what exactly does any communication with these folks bring in terms of overall benefit and/or enjoyment?
