Why doesn’t ISIS have more success shooting down helicopters?

Because they [redacted]…

The following is not to disparage the OP [original poster]:

See, this is the problem with some questions here on Quora – some of the questions may seem benign but is disconcerting, to a certain extent.

There is one anecdotal, yet relevant, story from the Second World War of a certain Congressman – Andrew May – who reportedly reassured american reporters that the Japanese reports of successful sinkings of American subs were false due the the fact that the Japanese were setting their depth charges too shallow. Shortly thereafter, there was a rise in the number of American subs lost on patrol.

Re-read the question and ponder the issue in terms of the “May Incident.” While it may seem like a valid question, and one not looking for operational details which may be easily exploited by a very information-savvy opponent… it is still a problematic question.

The same essentially applies to the media and mass shootings. During the San Bernardino shootings back in 2015, I was amazed and disturbed at the media’s nonchalant coverage and detail of the response times and actions of the police and paramedics. In their quest for comprehensive coverage, I felt that they were essentially providing a template for the next attack to be more devastating. Call it “media contagion effect,” a “copycat problem,” or “debateable issues with social media and crime,” the potential for that one piece, ever so small, of the intelligence puzzle falling in the right place for the wrong person is too great to ignore.

Call me paranoid, but I’ve made it through enough time spent in helicopters over territory now held by ISIS to find a small problem with such questions.
