A Bit of an Explanation

I’ve been reposting a lot of my answers on Quora in an effort to consolidate much of my own writing, but one answer in particular needs to be addressed:

“What was the first question that got you “hooked” on Quora and why?”

Posted 9Aug2017

Because Quora removed the “details” feature, I will clarify here…

For me, it would be: If every state of the USA declared war against each other, which would win? I found the answer to be extremely well thought out and crafted. After that, I discovered the perils of the “related questions” section and lost about six hours in the “rabbit hole” of questions.

To this day, I could not tell you how I came across this particular question… but then again, I couldn’t tell you how I end up with enough tabs open to slow my processor to the speed of cold molasses.

The author of the question, Jon Davis, put a lot of effort into this answer and every… single… answer he has posted to that site. When I dropped out of circulation on Facebook for a couple weeks in 2017, I spend many hours scrolling through his with the suspicion that one person could not possibly write that much and maintain a reasonable life. Whether or not this is true is beside the point – I was pretty much addicted from that moment on.

Quora is far from perfect, however. I have had answers reported for “plagiarism,” which I took an issue with since it was my own post here on WordPress I re-shared. Whatever. Other points of contention are the occasional troll, the baited or nonsensical questions, the overall repetitive nature of the topics, and the specter of violating the “be nice, be respectful” (BNBR) rule.

For the most part, I have my fun with my responses at times and the follow-on exchanges can be fairly interesting as well… So, until I am caught up there will be plenty of additions scheduled for daily publication here.
